Obtaining an Evaluation Copy of Windows Server 2003
Before you can perform any tasks with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) you have to install it on Windows Server 2003. Unless you are using someone else's money or have a lot of dough of your own, you probably can't afford to buy the commercial product. I'm writing these tutorials for students so it's a foregone conclusion that you aren't wealthy. In that case, you'll need to either download or order an evaluation copy of W2K3 Server. Here's how.
- Open a web browser and go to Microsoft Technet
- If you do not have a Windows Live ID, you can get one by creating a hotmail account
- Follow the instructions on the Windows Server 2003 Trial Software page and either download the software image or order it on a CD.
After that, it should be fairly easy work to install W2K3 Server on a PC or in a virtualization program such as VMWare.
