1. Click OK.
  2. Click the Effects tab.
  3. Click the Transparent background radio button.
  4. Drag the Shade transparent or image background slider to adjust the level of transparency of the terminal (how much or how little you want is a matter of taste).
  5. Click Close.
  6. In the Profiles box, use the drop down menu and select the new profile.
  7. Click Close.
  8. Close the terminal.
  9. Open a new terminal.
    The changes you have made have been applied to the terminal.
  10. Execute some commands in the terminal to test out the new effects.
  11. When you're done, type exit to close the terminal.
